With over 20 years working in IT and Information Assurance, Mr. Freedman has hands-on experience with both the public and private sector of healthcare networks and systems. He has worked on several HIPAA Security Risk Assessments for multiple covered entities including The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) on an in-depth security risk assessment of the DIRECT Certificate Discovery Tool (DCDT). He is formerly the CIO and Information Technology Director of one of South Carolina’s largest independent physicians practices. In this role, he was responsible for the oversight of all operational and technology functions for 33 primary care physician offices and specialist clinics. He served as the HIPAA Compliance Officer and managed a team of IT specialists in support of electronic medical records and practice management systems. Additionally, Mr. Freedman served as the Technical Services Lead on a US Navy Medicine Enterprise Services Operations Center project supporting a mix of 80 hospitals and clinics worldwide with over 55,000 users.

Mr. Freedman earned his Masters of Science in Information Systems through Strayer University and a Bachelor of Science in Communications from The University of Miami with a double-major in Speech Communications and History. He has co-authored a book on PCI Compliance and is the Technical Editor of a handbook on IT Regulatory and Standards Compliance.

Currently, Mr. Freedman is a Senior Information Assurance Analyst for Security Risk Solutions, Inc. and an Adjunct Instructor for the Department of Network Systems Management at a local technical college where he teaches classes in Information Systems, Networking, and Information Assurance. He holds some of the leading industry certifications from Microsoft and Cisco and is also a CISSP and PMP. Mr. Freedman is a Certified HIPAA Compliance Officer (CHCO) through the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance where he serves as an Online Course Manager for the HIPAA Privacy & Security Program.

Mr. Byron specializes in professional claims auditing for documentation, coding and billing provider and payer compliance at the Cleveland Clinic. He is a Licensed Athletic Trainer (ATC-L) and certified Emergency Medical Technician -Intermediate (EMT-I) in which he provides training in emergency response to sports related injuries, develops protocols for emergency sports injuries used by EMS and trains EMS stations. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Ohio University and is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

Mr. Byron has extensive experience as a national speaker and trainer to providers, coders and billers across the country in the areas of coding, billing, anatomy, medical terminology, compliance and auditing. He has also served as a contractor for Medicare conducting risk adjustment audits.

Mr. Byron is a Certified Healthcare Auditor (CHA), Officer of Compliance, Certified (OHCC), and Approved ICD-10 Trainer for the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance. He also serves as an Online Course Manger for the Advanced Medical Terminology program and ICD-10 programs.

Christina has experience as a Senior Clinical Research Technician, a Laboratory Supervisor and a Quality Control Technician.   She has over a decade of experience in clinical research, compliance, industrial standards, quality control and teaching environments. 

Christina earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio.  She is a certified ICDCT-CM/PCS trainer with the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance (AIHC).  She is also certified as a Certified Coding Associate (CCA) with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).  Christina provides support and guidance to AIHC’s online students as an Online Course Manager.

Ms. Byron is CEO and founder of the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance (AIHC).  Joanne brings over 40 years of clinical and executive health care experience in areas of compliance, coding, documentation improvement, auditing, privacy and security. She has developed many of the programs offered through this institute and has served as an instructor for these programs as well. She is affiliated with AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association), ASQ (American Society for Quality), and the MGMA (Medical Group Management Association).

As a graduate with honors from St. Augustine Technical Center in 1980 with a diploma in nursing, Joanne continued her education at Lake Erie College in Health Care Administration, obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree through Clayton College, is Certified in Compliance, Auditing, HIPAA, ICD-10, Medical Billing, Collections and Clinical Documentation Improvement.

Katherine has over 15 years experience in coding, compliance and education.  She has experience with all facets of the physician’s office, from initial contact and intake to compliance and insurance reimbursement.  Katherine has also worked locally educating doctors and staff on documentation requirements and coding standards.

 

Katherine earned her bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.  She is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), and Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA).  Her professional affiliations include the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance (AIHC), the National Association of Medical Auditing Specialists (NAMAS), and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).  Katherine is an instructor for the Officer of Healthcare Compliance (OHCC) and Healthcare Auditor (CHA) programs.

Ms. Kirshner brings to AIHC over 20 years of healthcare experience in the areas of billing, coding, compliance, education and software development. She is a former Administrator for both a large health system and billing company in the Detroit area and currently works as a Executive Director of a large physician organization providing compliance and education services to over 500 physicians in the Detroit area. 

 

Ms. Kirshner earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Anatomy and Physiology from Michigan State University and holds a Masters of Public Health from the University of Michigan. She is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), an Approved ICD-10 Trainer through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).  Ms. Kirshner is an AAPC approved instructor and currently serves as the President of the Novi, Michigan chapter of the AAPC.  Melissa provides instruction for the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS programs as well as the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation programs through the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance (AIHC).
