Dr. Lilian Alevato, MD, MBA, CHA, OHCC, FAACM, PCMH-CCE

Dr. Lilian Alevato brings over 30 years experience as a healthcare provider in the fields of Compliance, Quality, Utilization Management, Case Management, and Population Health. She was a Hospital Director leading a group of over 80 physicians in Rio de Janeiro for 12 years until she moved to the U.S.A. to continue her career in Managed Care Administration.  Dr. Alevato completed her Master’s in Business Healthcare Administration at COPPEAD/John Hopkins School of Medicine and soon after began working in auditing and compliance programs for large physician groups in Florida.


Dr. Alevato holds several certifications with the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance (AIHC) and other organizations, such as: Certified Healthcare Auditor (CHA), Officer of Healthcare Compliance Certified (OHCC), Certified Case Manager, and Certified Content Expert. In the past 18 years working in the Managed Care field, she has held several leadership positions such as Chief Medical Officer, Chief Quality Officer, Compliance Officer, and Chief Operations Officer. She is proud to disclose that she helped over 40 practices transform to become Patient Centered Medical Homes recognized by NCQA. Dr. Alevato is currently the Chief Quality and Compliance Officer for one of the largest hospital groups in Central Florida.

Joanne Byron, LPN, BS, CCA, CIFHA, CHA, COCAS, CORCM, CHCO, OHCC, CMDP, ICDCT-CM/PCS

As Chief Executive Officer and Board Chair, Joanne brings over 35 years of clinical and executive health care experience in areas of compliance, coding, documentation improvement, auditing, privacy, and security. She has over thirty-five years of experience in health care consulting and administration. She has worked in Acquisitions and Mergers in the health care division of an accounting firm, Director of Coding and Reimbursement for a large multi-specialty physician network, served as a senior health care consultant supporting clients in areas of auditing, developing compliance programs and improving accounts receiving performance and cash flow and implementing EHR clinical documentation standards for physician organizations and hospital-owned networks. In addition to AIHC, Joanne is affiliated with AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association), HiMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society), and the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). As a graduate with honors from St. Augustine Technical Center with a diploma in nursing, Joanne continued her education at Lake Erie College in Health Care Administration, obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree through Clayton College, is Certified in Compliance, HIPAA privacy/security, Auditing, Internal Forensic Auditing, ICD-10, Medical Billing, Collections and Clinical Documentation Improvement.


Karen Drummond, CCS, CPC, CPC-H, CPC-I, PCS, FCS, ACS-RA, ACS-OB/GYN, CMBS-I

Ms. Drummond brings over 30 years of experience and multiple coding and billing certifications! She serves on the national board of Advanced Coding Specialists in Radiology and OB/GYN. Karen is a past presenter for the American Academy of Professional Coders and has worked locally and nationally educating physicians and their staff on documentation guidelines and coding concepts. Karen is a CCS and an AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Instructor. She is also an American Academy of Professional Coders approved PMCC instructor, who has taught medical billing and coding at Stark State College, Canton City Schools Adult Education, and Portage Lakes Career Center in Ohio. Currently, she is a voting member of the AIHC board and has taught several of our coding exam prep and online courses. Karen has worked for two large hospitals teaching the residency program the documentation guidelines as a coding manager and as a practice manager and auditing consultant. She also worked for two years as a coder and auditor for Medicare MAC.


Roberto Paolo Colon-Torres, CHCO, CHA


Roberto Paolo Colon-Torres holds a degree in Health Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and is a Certified HIPAA Compliance Officer (CHCO) as well as a Certified Healthcare Auditor (CHA) through the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance. Roberto has been in healthcare for over 25 years and is the current Chief Compliance Officer for San Ysidro Health in San Diego, California. Roberto began his career in healthcare as a First Responder in Oakland, California and has worked for several FQHCs in the State of California.


Roberto enjoys bike riding, working out, eating Mexican, Puerto Rican, Italian foods, and weekends at the beach.   


Gabriella Neff, BS, RHIA, CHA, CHC, CHRC, CHCO, CHPC, CIFHA

Ms. Neff brings over 21+ years of healthcare experience with a comprehensive background in coding, revenue cycle, and regulatory compliance. Ms. Neff earned her Associate in Applied Science degree in Health Information Management (HIM) through Stark State University and her Bachelor of Science degree in HIM from the University of Cincinnati. She holds multiple certifications through the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance (AIHC) and other organizations, including: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Healthcare Auditor (CHA), Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified in Healthcare Research Compliance (CHRC),  Certified HIPAA Compliance Officer (CHCO), Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) and Certified as an Internal Forensic Healthcare Auditor (CIFHA) . Currently, Ms. Neff is a Research Compliance Officer for H. Lee Moffit Cancer Center and also serves as the Compliance Department Liaison to all research operations personnel, leadership, and partnering compliance professionals at the University of South Florida.


Karri Roskam, BS

Ms. Roskam brings over two decades of multi-practice and Revenue Cycle Management experience to the Board of Directors for the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance (AIHC).  Her expertise in Billing, Corporate Compliance, Auditing, Collections, Practice Administration and Consulting, enhances her ability to contribute as an active member on the Board. Karri is a member of the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance (AIHC). She has served as a former facilitator to many of AIHC’s Classroom training programs and has provided support and guidance to many AIHC students over the years.


J. David Sims, CHITSP, CHMSP

In 1998, David Sims transformed from IT enthusiast to IT business owner. Through this business, he learned his true passion was, and continues to be, helping others succeed.  By utilizing his knowledge in IT, HIPAA, small business management, cybersecurity, and entrepreneurship, David is able to provide his clients with well-rounded guidance for success.


David co-owns and operates an IT security firm in the Charlotte, NC area.  This firm provides security-focused IT solutions to healthcare and small business clients across five U.S. States.  In addition to his IT firm, he is also the founder of a compliance training resource for IT professionals and Managed Service Providers.  As an expert in HIPAA compliance for IT, David co-hosts the popular weekly podcast Help Me With HIPAA.  He is frequently featured in podcasts, webinars, blogs, interviews, and conferences within the IT and compliance industries.


Heather Skelton - Esquire, Attorney at Law


Ms. Skelton focuses her boutique law practice in health care law specializing in medical office compliance, practice management and representing physicians and specializing in managed care contracting. Her contributions as a Board Member relate to regulatory compliance oversight of our distance learning programs.  Her expertise includes healthcare regulations, employment law, and business law, including partnerships and dissolutions.  Heather graduated with honors from Tulane Law School and the University of Chapel Hill with a degree in business. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, and the North Carolina Society of Healthcare Attorneys.


Stephen J. Sugrue, Esq., RN, CEN, CAC, CACO, Paramedic


Stephen Sugrue serves as DocGo’s Chief Compliance Officer and is responsible for oversight of the Compliance and Ethics functions throughout the company. Before joining DocGo, he served for more than 15 years as Compliance Officer and Compliance Counsel for large NY health systems. He spent time at healthcare litigation firms and in the Office of the NYS Attorney General. He also has a clinical background. He has worked as an EMT, Paramedic, and Director of Operations for a large ambulance company and worked as a critical care RN in the hospital setting. Stephen has a Juris Doctor and undergraduate degrees in Healthcare & Legal Studies and Nursing. He is a licensed RN and maintains a Board Certification in Emergency Nursing. He is a certified ambulance coder and a certified ambulance compliance officer. Stephen is a volunteer firefighter & EMT/Paramedic in his local community.


Mary T. Sullivan - Esquire, Attorney at Law

Ms. Sullivan is an attorney licensed in New York and Texas who is presently of counsel to McCue-Pauley & Associates, P.C in Dallas, Texas. She graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York College at Buffalo in 1981 with a B.S. in education and received her J.D. in 1984 from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School. Before relocating to Texas in 2000, Mary practiced in Buffalo, New York for 15 years, where she handled personal injury actions for plaintiffs, as well as family law and criminal matters.   Mary has practiced in the areas of medical and legal malpractice defense and health care law as well as practice criminal defense, and has represented physicians and other health care providers charged with Medicare/Medicaid fraud.


Mary is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Western District of New York, and for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. In 2003 and 2004, she was recognized by the Dallas Bar Association as an Outstanding Volunteer for her work in the East and West Legal Clinics, and was featured as one of the “Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program’s Finest” in the May 2004 issue of Headnotes, a publication of the Dallas Bar Association.
